HIGHLIGHTS-

We are very fortunate to offer a special program for first grade students that is called Reading Recovery. Through early intervention and one-on-one instruction students in Reading Recovery have a very good opportunity to accelerate in reading to a level where they will no longer need any additional support, including Title I reading.

First through fourth grade students are each given individualized lessons that are planned to meet the individual needs of that child. One successful program used is called Read Naturally. With the use of short stories and audio tapes, each student is placed at his reading level and then challenged to progress in both oral reading and comprehension while visually being able to see the progress they are making by graphing their progress.  Students also work on phonics skills, reading fluency, and comprehension in small groups.

Students are provided supplemental reading support in the Title I reading room. The Title I teacher is in close contact with the classroom teacher to determine what type of support will most benefit the individual child. Children in kindergarten through grade four who are determined to have a need for additional reading help become eligible for Title I services. This support is provided in addition to the regular reading instruction the child already receives in the regular classroom setting. Through small group or one-on-one instruction, it is expected that each child will show at least one year's growth in reading during the school year.
